Summary

As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in planning, developing, and delivering Child Life programming tailored to meet the psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate and supervise special events for inpatient pediatric areas.

Collaborate with marketing and public affairs for photography, interviews, and donor events.

Create strategies to alleviate fear and anxiety associated with the healthcare environment.

Prepare patients and families for procedures and treatments through therapeutic play activities.

Assess each child's developmental stage, coping abilities, and emotional state.

Identify coping strategies and provide support for families dealing with hospitalization or illness.

Implement tailored services that cater to individual children's needs.

Consult with healthcare team members on developmental and behavioral concerns affecting patient care.

Maintain records that document the Child Life services provided.

Manage the budget and resources relevant to the Child Life department's objectives.

Offer consultations for children visiting hospitalized patients, ensuring their needs are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Child Life or related field.

At least 1 year of experience as a Child Life Specialist in a healthcare setting with children.

Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) licensure in Pennsylvania upon hire.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.

Physical Demands:

This role involves lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs, with the potential for frequent to continuous standing and walking—patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles during a shift, and you may need to engage in activities such as kneeling, bending, and performing CPR as required.
