By joining our Floyd County - Allen Maintenance Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Floyd County,you'll have the opportunity to perform general level work and assist with intermediate level work in roadway orroadside maintenance operations.

Holders of the Highway Technician Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:

Operate single axle dump trucks to haul materials, snowplows, salt spreaders, and mowing machines efficiently and safely.

Perform brush cutting operations using chain saws, bush axes, or chemical treatments to ensure clear visibility and safety on roadways.

Flag traffic for maintenance crews during operations to guarantee the safety of team members and the public.

Effectively operate snowplows and salt spreaders to clear roadways during winter weather conditions.

Shovel blacktop and perform other roadway maintenance-related activities as required. Holders of this job title will obtain:

Proven experience operating single axle dump trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, mowing machines, chain saws, and bush axes.

Understanding of traffic control procedures and ability to flag traffic safely.

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including shoveling and operating heavy machinery.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
