The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Personnel & Information has a full-time vacancy for a Payroll Technician.

Summary:

To provide technical assistance in the processing of human resource and employee compensation transactions to include computing, compiling and reviewing agency compensation reports to ensure the authorized verification and accuracy of reported information.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Associate's degree and 6 months of experience OR equivalent combination of 2.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in business administration, education, personnel office work, human resource work, payroll, business management or related field.

License/Certification: None

Other Requirements: Must pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments

Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 1.5+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.

The work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. An employee in trainee status shall meet the minimum qualifications within the period of time specified on the SJD, not to exceed one year of being hired into this position.

Responsibilities:

Audits personnel change form documents against entries into NH First System ensuring entries are accurate and changes have been processed timely and appropriately. Identifies and communicates irregularities and errors and makes corrections to facilitate accurate records and reporting.

Monitors and audits Workforce Management entries through the NH First System to ensure accuracy of timekeeping reporting and biweekly employee compensation Identifies and communicates irregularities and errors and makes corrections to facilitate accurate records and reporting.

Calculates and verifies current changes related to Group I or Group II retirement deductions and processes employee retirements according to required procedures and completes NHRS forms for terminated vested employees; maintains and updates data to properly record computations. Follows up and checks benefit information in NH First after transactions are processed to ensure NHRS is processing correctly and notifies Department of Personnel to update screen when necessary.

Works with outside vendors or other agencies on behalf of the employee(s) for the transfers of employment and to complete verification of employment and compensation information requests from Social Security, attorneys, financial institutions and other outside sources.

Tracks and initiates work unit transactions for Income Protection leave payments, FMLA accounts, employee transfers, military leave, employee suspensions, worker's compensation and the calculation of workers' compensation differential for employees, in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement grievances and/or Personnel Appeal Board decisions, and other State Settlement Agreements that impact employee's compensation and/or leave.

Maintains records on salary enhancements for a variety of employee groups to ensure all activity and information is current and updated. Also works with the supervisor to ensure the timely processing of overpayments, retroactive requests, salary enhancements and approvals of work units.

Ensures that transaction documents and employee compensation records are filed timely.

Devises methods and modifies procedures as needed to meet operational demands and assists in training other employees on transactions and compensation processing procedures.
