Job Description Summary
The Department of Public and Environmental Wellness in the School of Health Sciences at Oakland University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). The successful candidate will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary department committed to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
We seek a candidate who will initiate and maintain a successful program of research, scholarship, and service. The ideal candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate instruction in Environmental Health and Safety, support the department's mission, and actively engage in curriculum development and program growth.
Responsibilities include:
Developing and sustaining an active scholarship agenda in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field
Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in EHS and related topics
Engaging in service to the department, college, university, and professional communities
Advising and mentoring students
Contributing to program development, improvement, and accreditation activities
Participating in community engagement initiatives and, where appropriate, program leadership Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or a closely related field by the time of appointment
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and scholarly activity appropriate to rank Preferred Qualifications:
Attainment of the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential or other relevant professional designations (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist [CIH], Certified Hazardous Materials Manager [CHMM])
Experience with ABET accreditation processes and standards
Interest and experience in continuous program improvement, curriculum innovation, and academic leadership
Evidence of successful community engagement or interdisciplinary academic collaboration
Leadership roles or active participation in professional organizations related to Environmental Health and Safety (e.g., American Society of Safety Professionals [ASSP], National Safety Council [NSC], etc.), with a demonstrated commitment to advancing the field through these organizations Special Instructions to Applicants

The Environmental Health and Safety faculty offer: a Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), a dual BS/MS program, and four graduate certificate programs within the Department of Public and Environmental Wellness (PEW). Guided by the mission of "Pursuing society's big health challenges," the department is dedicated to transforming students into leaders, connecting theory to best practices, and addressing the health needs of diverse communities.
Our EHS program focuses on translating knowledge and theory into best practices for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating hazards that pose risks to people, property, and the environment. While our degree and certificate programs are fully available online, we also provide access to well-equipped physical laboratories that enhance hands-on learning and research.

Industrial and robotics safety

Safety systems management
Fire safety
Biomechanics and ergonomics
