NBC4 / WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio, has an immediate opening for a digital producer and assignment editor. The candidate will work to maintain and promote NBC4i.com, one of central Ohio’s most visited sites for local news, writing up breaking and spot news stories and assembling video for multiple platforms. And the person will be part of the assignment desk, gathering information from sources and ensuring the smooth weekend operation of the newsroom. This role will entail shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Position responsibilities
Report news quickly and accurately
Track stories from sources including government agencies, wire services and community groups
Assemble video clips to promote digital content on our platforms and on social media
Understand types of stories that drive traffic on the web, and can deliver them
Excellent at writing headlines that grow audience and engagement
Promote and distribute news content on social media
Dispatch photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories, coordinating logistics
Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management
Skill/ Experience Requirements
Experience creating digital news content
Knowledge of AP style
Adheres to journalistic ethics and standards
Video editing and knowledge of how video best works on various social media platforms
Enjoys working in teams and is a strong communicator
Thrives under pressure, able to meet deadlines and can handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Self-motivated and competitive
Ability to be fast and accurate at breaking news on the web
Familiar with contact information for various agencies to obtain information as quickly as possible
Flexibility to work any shift
