The Camp Recreation Facilitator supports the work of the Y, which is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. A Camp Recreation Facilitator provides direct supervision of a group of children, facilitates challenge course operations and enhances learning experiences through creative and recreational supplemental programming. This position fosters a safe and nurturing environment for all program participants in all-season camp programming.
EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and facilitates quality programs including, but not limited to Rotary Academy; environmental education; team-building retreats; school's out camp days; climbing, low and high ropes; and seasonal events.
Provides supervision, guidance and leadership for program participants.
Partners and coordinates with fellow facilitators to optimize program success.
Models appropriate behaviors including core values, cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, healthy habits, and good sportsmanship.
Provides constant supervision with each activity to ensure the safety of all program participants.
Demonstrates camp stewardship by maintaining cleanliness of buildings and grounds and applying talents to camp-improvement projects.
Provides a safe and nurturing environment for all.
Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION: 10 Positions
Positions 1-10: YMCA Camp Winnebago
Part-Time, Non-Exempt
*May be asked to travel to another branch or location*
25 hours per week maximum with mostly morning or afternoon hours
Occasional evening and weekend hours
$15.00 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Previous experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting.
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics and recreational games.
Training required upon hire: IL Gateways Child Development Overview, IL DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect/Mandated Reporter.
Praesidium Academy trainings required.
CPR & First Aid/AED, Handle with Care (HWC) Certifications required within 90 days.
Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
