Stephens Memorial Hospital is seeking to hire a Medical Technologist for the Laboratory Department on a PRN (as-needed) basis

About the Role:

The Medical Technologist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by performing laboratory tests that are essential for diagnosing and treating patients. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail, as the accuracy of test results directly impacts patient care. The Medical Technologist will work with various laboratory equipment and technologies, ensuring that all procedures comply with established protocols and regulations. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to interpret test results and provide insights that guide treatment decisions. Ultimately, the Medical Technologist contributes to the overall quality of care provided to patients in the healthcare facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field.

Current certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or equivalent from a recognized accrediting body.

Strong understanding of laboratory procedures and safety protocols. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a clinical laboratory setting, particularly in a hospital environment.

Familiarity with laboratory information systems and electronic health records.

Additional certifications in specialized areas of laboratory testing. Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of laboratory tests on patient samples, including blood, urine, and other bodily fluids.

Ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results by following established protocols and quality control measures.

Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.

Collaborate with healthcare professionals to discuss test results and provide recommendations for further testing or treatment.

Document all laboratory procedures and results accurately in the electronic health record system.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include a strong foundation in laboratory techniques and the ability to operate complex medical equipment. Attention to detail is critical, as even minor errors in testing can lead to significant consequences for patient care. Effective communication skills are also essential, as the Medical Technologist must convey test results and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
