Equipment Service Technician

About the Role

Central Texas Recruiting is seeking an experienced Service Technician for a family-owned Iowa equipment company. This position specializes primarily in small-engine equipment including generators, concrete saws, water pumps, plate compactors, power buggies, light towers, mixers, and similar machinery. Candidates must be able to work with minimal supervision and manage repair tasks efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

– Perform assigned maintenance and repair tasks with minimal supervision

– Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools, test equipment, and service manuals

– Refer to service manuals, parts catalogs, and technical documents to complete accurate repairs

– Promote and follow all workplace safety procedures

– Maintain accurate documentation including timesheets, logs, and required CDL physical card (if applicable)

– Improve and maintain technical knowledge of construction-related equipment

– Assist in reviewing or checking the work of junior mechanics when needed

– Supply and maintain required personal hand tools

– Execute work with strong attention to detail and efficiency

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

– High school diploma or equivalent required

– Minimum 5 years of experience in construction equipment repair or small-engine mechanical work

– Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair a range of construction-related equipment

– Ability to verify or review the work of others

Skills & Technical Knowledge

– Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills

– Proficiency in electrical and hydraulic repair

– Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical documents

– Experience with diagnostic tools, test equipment, and small-engine systems

– Ability to lift up to 100 lbs

– Ability to work extended hours (Mon–Fri 7am–5pm; Saturdays 8am–noon)

– Team-oriented mindset with strong work ethic

Physical Requirements

– Ability to lift 100 lbs

– Ability to bend, crouch, squat, and handle tools and equipment

– Ability to work in indoor and outdoor shop environments
