Prevention Education Specialist

Crisis Services is seeking a Prevention Education Specialist to join our Advocate Department's team. We are seeking professionals with public health, human services, social work, or education degrees who are interested in supporting our mission to provide support to anyone in need.

About this opportunity:

The Advocate Department of Crisis Services is Erie County's Rape Crisis Center and a licensed Non-Residential Domestic Violence Service Provider in New York State. The Department provides comprehensive victim services to individuals who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, family violence and/or elder abuse. The Prevention Education Specialist is responsible for implementing data-driven prevention education trainings and evaluations, specifically for community, high school, and college campus populations. This role also conducts outreach and fosters relationships with local high schools and community partners to promote social norms and build capacity to foster a community of hopefulness, safety, and shared responsibility to prevent domestic and sexual violence across the Social Ecological Model (SEM).

Hospital On Call: this position includes scheduled on-call responsibilities outside of the regularly scheduled shift covering the Department's 24/7 Hospital Response Advocacy services. If activated, they may be required to respond to local county emergency rooms to provide crisis intervention and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, family violence and/or elder abuse and/or provide support to Volunteers who are on call for the Hospital Response Program.

Job Type:

Full Time, 40 hours/week

Pay:

$21.61 - $25.30 per hour(pay rates increasing to $22.04 - $25.81 per hour starting in January 2026)

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm

Some evening and/or weekend hours, as needed, for community outreach and education events.

Required on-call responsibilities.

Work Setting:

Onsite at Crisis Services, 100 River Rock Road, Suite 300, Buffalo, NY

What you will bring:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, human services, social work, or education, or equivalent experience.

Minimum of one (1) year's relevant work experience in public speaking, community education, or training facilitation required.

One (1) year of relevant work experience in the field of domestic violence and/or sexual assault strongly preferred.

Experience working with college-aged populations is preferred.

Capable of working with and mobilizing a wide variety of stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability and experience to relate to and engage diverse populations in a variety of settings.

Proven skills in and knowledge of training facilitation and public speaking.

Excellent presentation skills: the ability to develop and facilitate group presentations in classroom or large group settings.

Ability to foster collaboration to achieve prevention education goals and objectives.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.

Ability to set goals and adhere to timelines for program implementation; must be able work independently.

Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Power Point and Internet required.

A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record with access to a reliable vehicle.
