and Duties Under general direction, the Captain, AI will plan, organize, and direct a program and/or the work for the safe custody, classification, discipline, and care and treatment of incarcerated people within a program unit of a correctional facility.

In a correctional facility, as the manager responsible for a program unit which may consist of one or more incarcerated person's programs that are combined for the purpose of directing and organizing the daily operations of custodial staff including Correctional Lieutenants, Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers, Correctional Counselors, and other support staff into a unified program team.

Within a single institution or major facility, there may be one or more program units, each headed by a Captain.

Performs peace officer duties in accordance with laws, rules, and regulations; serves as Administrative-Officer-of-the-Day (AOD), and does other related work.

Each person in this class is expected to be able to perform in any position in this classification as part of the Department's management development program.

Working Conditions About the location - Kern Valley State Prison is located in Delano, a culturally diverse community that celebrates their culture and heritage with festivals throughout the year.

There's the Cinco de Mayo celebration in early May, put on by the Cinco de Mayo Fiestas Incorporated.

KVSP is a Level IV facility consisting of four semi-autonomous 180 designed facilities and two stand-alone Administrative Segregation Units, all surrounded by a Lethal Electrified Perimeter Fence.

There is also a Level I Minimum Support Facility.

It is on 600 acres.

KVSP received Level I's in June 2005 and Level IV's in July 2005.
