The Senior QA will be embedded with the Commodity Market Operations (CMO) team, working closely with the EDI team. The role is responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of processes and data flows that rely heavily on flat file (EDI/X12/positional) transactions between internal systems and external market partners/utilities. The QA will be expected to design and execute tests for complex, high-volume, and business-critical workflows, and to act as a subject matter expert on both CMO and EDI processes.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans and cases for CMO processes, especially those involving EDI/flat file interfaces.

Validate inbound and outbound EDI transactions (e.g., 814, 810, 867, 824, etc.) for correct formatting, mapping, and business logic.

Perform end-to-end testing of file processing, including error handling, reconciliation, and exception management.

Participate in 3 Amigos sessions (BA/Dev/QA) to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.

Automation & Tools

Build and maintain automated regression suites for flat file processing and CMO workflows.

Leverage SQL, scripting, and test management tools (e.g., Zephyr Scale, Queue Explorer, Notepad++, etc.) for validation and troubleshooting.

Use file comparison and data validation tools to ensure data integrity across systems.

Serve as a liaison between CMO and EDI teams to clarify requirements, triage issues, and coordinate testing.

Document test results, defects, and process improvements in Confluence/Jira.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical

5+ years in QA roles, with at least 2 years in energy/utility, EDI, or high-volume transactional environments.

Deep experience with flat file formats (X12, positional, CSV, XML) and EDI transaction sets (814, 810, 867, etc.).

Strong SQL skills for data validation and troubleshooting.

Familiarity with file transfer protocols (SFTP, FTP), file archiving, and job scheduling concepts (control M).

Domain/Process

Understanding of utility billing, enrollment, and market operations processes.

Experience in handling transactional workflows including error handling, reconciliation, and exception management.

Experience working with cross-functional teams (BA, Dev, Ops, EDI).

Soft Skills

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and drive quality initiatives across teams.

Strong documentation and process improvement mindset.

Preferred/Bonus Skills

Experience with utility market-specific requirements (e.g., Texas SET, PJM, AGL, PSEG, etc.).

Prior experience onboarding or mentoring QA team members.

Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting (Ruby is a big +).
