The position

The Aga Khan Academy Dhaka is the fourth in the network of the Aga Khan Academies established by His Highness the Aga Khan. The Academy features state-of-the-art facilities, a multicultural student body and an experienced team of educators and staff. We provide students with education of the highest standard in order to prepare them for lives characterised by leadership and service. The Dean of Athletics is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all athletic programs and extracurricular activities across the Academy. This role ensures that sports programs align with the IB philosophy, promoting holistic development, intercultural understanding, and Learner Profile attributes such as being balanced, principled, leaders and stewards.

Main responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Development

Provide strategic leadership for all athletic and activities programs.

Create and organize programs that maximise participation and provide a broad range of opportunities for students.

Ensure programs align with the school's mission, vision, and the learner profile.

Promote balance and well-being in line with IB philosophy.

Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote sportsmanship and a positive environment.Staff Management

Recruit, train, and supervise coaches and athletics staff.

Provide professional development on inclusive practices and IB values.

Foster a collaborative and positive team culture among staff.Student Engagement & Well-being

Foster a safe, inclusive environment for all students.

Monitor student participation and ensure equitable access to sports programs.

Provide guidance and support to students, particularly regarding the balance between academics and athletics.

Ensure safeguarding and child protection policies are fully implemented. Operations & Compliance

Develop and manage the annual budget for all athletic and PE programs.

Oversee logistical aspects like scheduling, facility maintenance, and equipment inventory.

Ensure compliance with school policies, IB standards, and all relevant international, national, and league regulationsCollaboration & Communication

Build partnerships with local and international schools for tournaments and events.

Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff about athletic events and expectations.

Ensure excellent handling of logistics related to student trips such as transportation, accommodation, and compliance details.

Collaborate with the Lead Teacher of PHE on programs, resources and facility usage.

The requirements

SPECIFICATIONS (Candidate profile):

Strong demonstration of being a team player with the ability and willingness to develop capacity amongst the team of local staff.

Commitment to championing and leading innovative transformational change regarding approaches to teaching and learning.

Distributive leader, committed to collaboration, delegation of authority and building the capacity of others as leaders, while accepting responsibility as the educational leader for athletics and activities.Education:

Master’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related fieldExperience:

Minimum 7 years in athletics administration, preferably in an IB or international school setting.

Experience in coaching, teaching, or administration.Skills:

Experience and Technical Skills

Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Knowledge of IB philosophy and holistic education.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Consensus building skills.Other Skills and personal traits

Excellent command of English and preferably Bangla – both written and oral.

Knowledge and understanding of Subcontinent cultures.

Attention to detail, discretion and high integrity are imperative.
