Job Summary
The Mexican Senior Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring full compliance with Mexican tax regulations and supporting corporate tax planning and reporting activities. This role involves preparing, reviewing, and filing federal, state, and VAT tax returns; managing SAT (Servicio de Administración Tributaria) requirements; maintaining accurate tax records; and advising management on tax risks and opportunities. The position requires a deep understanding of Mexican tax law, electronic invoicing (CFDI), and corporate tax obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and file monthly and annual tax returns (ISR, IVA, VAT taxes) in compliance with SAT regulations.
Responsible for VAT claim process and recovery.
Prepare reports and file monthly informative declarations for DIOT, INEGI, Economic reporting and State Governments.
Manage electronic invoicing (CFDI) issuance, validation, and reconciliation processes.
Monitor changes in Mexican tax legislation and evaluate their impact on company operations.
Coordinate tax audits and respond to inquiries from SAT or other tax authorities.
Prepare Mexican tax provisions, reconciliations, deferred tax calculations and journal entries for financial reporting purposes both statutory and US GAAP.
Maintain and oversee Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls over the tax function.
Maintain and reconcile tax accounts, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
Support transfer pricing documentation and compliance requirements.
Advise management on tax-efficient business practices and compliance risks.
Collaborate with internal and external auditors, legal advisors, and accounting teams.
Ensure timely payment of taxes and submission of required reports and declarations.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Minimum 3+ years of experience in similar position.
Minimum 3+ years in public accounting.
Intermediate English.
Skills
Strong knowledge of Mexican tax law (ISR, IVA, VAT.) and accounting standards (US GAAP/IFRS).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/tax software (JDE, OneStream).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Ability to communicate complex tax issues clearly in Spanish and English.
