The Senior Accountant role is required to perform complicated accounting functions and procedures in accordance with GAAP for a non-profit institution of higher education to help maintain the College's audit, accounting, reporting functions and responsibilities. This position assists the VP for Finance, the AVP for Finance, Controller, and Assistant Controller in carrying out the policies and procedures for the overall accounting functions of the College. This position will work jointly with other members of the Accounting team to provide coverage across all areas and have opportunities for cross training.
Primary responsibilities for the position include:
Support timely month-end close processes by completing reconciliations
Review and post journal entries to the General Ledger related to accounts payable, benefits, fund transfers, banking activities, gifts, tuition payments, and other transactions
Calculate the payments to be processed, process voids, review cleared checks when requested
Oversee accounts payable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and collaboration with other departments
Support accounting for endowment transactions related to investment managers, endowment draw calculations and tracking, and creation of new endowments
Calculate month-end/year-end allocation entries
Assist in routine System Upgrades/Testing
Assist in annual 1099 tax reporting and PCI compliance
Serve as a liaison to other departments across campus including Development, Athletics, Office of Study Away
Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's Degree, preferred majors include Accounting, Finance, or Business
3 years of work experience
Accounting skills
Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize work
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy
Ability to evaluate information, interpret, and analyze data
Ability to uphold a professional code of ethics and maintain confidentiality
Preferred:
5 or more years of work experience
Experience with Fund Accounting or Higher Education Accounting
Experience with PeopleSoft or Oracle Cloud
