The Patient Care Technician's role is to assist the RN and LPN in ensuring the patient is safe, comfortable and clean, in addition to completing task/interventions.

Equivalent Experience: 1) New hires on or after April 1, 2020 will be required to have a current CNA certification and keep it active must hold an internal MidMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program or Medical Assistant with the following: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, etc. 2) Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do not have a current CNA will be grandfathered in and not required to obtain the certification as long as they stay in their current classification. 3) Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do have a current and active CNA will be required to maintain and keep active their certification as long as they are in their current classification. 4) Internal transfers after on or after April 1, 2020 will be required to obtain the CNA certification or complete the internal MidMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification within six (6) months of their transfer date. Once obtaining their certification, they will be required to maintain and keep the certification active while in employed in either classification.
