Job Summary

The Elbow Washing Associate is a critical role responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and preparation of conduit pipe elbows and fittings prior to subsequent processing steps (e.g., threading, galvanization, or final assembly). This role demands strict adherence to safety protocols, efficiency in material handling, and a keen eye for quality to prevent contamination and maintain product integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Washing & Cleaning: Operate and monitor industrial washing/degreasing equipment (e.g., ultrasonic baths, high-pressure sprayers) used to remove residual oils, metal shavings, cutting fluid, and dust from newly formed conduit elbows.

Chemical Handling: Safely handle and mix cleaning solutions (detergents, degreasers, rust inhibitors) according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety data sheets (SDS).

Material Flow: Load and unload batches of elbows onto wash racks, conveyors, or specialized baskets, ensuring proper orientation for maximum cleaning efficacy.

Quality Inspection: Visually inspect all washed elbows for residual contaminants, streaks, rust, or damage. Segregate and flag defective pieces for further processing or scrap.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on washing equipment, including checking fluid levels, replacing filters, cleaning nozzles, and reporting complex malfunctions to maintenance staff.

Documentation: Accurately record production data, including batch numbers, cleaning cycle times, and quality assurance checks, in the production log.

Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all plant safety rules, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience: 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment, preferably with exposure to metalworking or pipe production.

Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of industrial cleaning processes, material handling, and quality inspection techniques.

Safety Focus: Demonstrated commitment to following safety protocols, particularly concerning chemical handling and powered machinery.

Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.

Attention to Detail: Excellent visual acuity to spot minor imperfections and contaminants on finished parts.

Work Environment: Willingness to work in an environment that includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, oils, and cleaning chemicals.

Preferred Qualifications

Forklift certification or experience operating pallet jacks.

Experience with lean manufacturing principles (5S).

Knowledge of conduit pipe specifications (e.g., EMT, IMC, Rigid).
