Role Overview
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, AI/ML systems, and drug discovery pipelines. As a Software Patent Analyst, you will evaluate and draft patents related to computational models, algorithmic frameworks, data pipelines, molecular simulation tools, and AI-driven discovery platforms. You’ll identify protectable innovations, assess IP risks, and build a strong patent portfolio for next-gen digital biology products.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advanced Patent Search & IP Analytics
Execute FTO searches, Novelty Searches, and Prior Art Searches specific to:
Machine learning architectures (e.g., GNNs, transformers used in molecule prediction)
Software pipelines for target identification, QSAR modeling, docking, virtual screening
Cloud-based computational platforms for drug discovery
Analyze claims and map them against:
Algorithmic steps
Data structures
Model architectures
Software modules and APIs
Generate Patentability Reports, Claim Charts, and Technology Mapping Documents.
2. Patent Drafting – Software + Computational Biology
Draft detailed software + algorithm-centric patent specifications, including:
System architecture
Data flow diagrams
Model training workflows
Feature engineering pipelines
Molecular representation techniques (SMILES, fingerprints, embeddings)
Prepare claim sets covering:
Method claims (ML workflows, computational processes)
System claims (AI platforms, computational frameworks)
Computer-readable medium claims
Collaborate with inventors to capture both technical effect and novel algorithmic implementation.
3. Patent Filing & Prosecution Support
Support drafting of provisional, non-provisional, and PCT applications.
Prepare technical responses to office actions, focusing on algorithmic novelty and inventive step.
Coordinate with patent attorneys on claim amendments and prosecution strategy.
4. Technical Evaluation & Deep-Dive Analysis
Review source code architectures, model design documents, and software product flows.
Evaluate:
Novelty in ML architectures for molecule generation/optimization
Data engineering logic (ETL, preprocessing, feature selection)
Cloud-native deployment of AI drug discovery workflows
Assess scientific publications and compute-heavy pipelines for patentability.
5. Competitive Intelligence (Tech + Bio)
Track global IP filings across:
AI drug discovery platforms
Computational chemistry models
Generative ML frameworks for molecule design
Bioinformatics software tools
Develop landscape reports highlighting whitespace in algorithmic innovation.
Required Skills & Technical Qualifications
M.Tech/MS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, AI/ML, Biotechnology, or related field.
Experience in:
Patent Drafting (software + algorithm emphasis)
FTO, Novelty & Prior Art Searches
IP mapping for AI/ML techniques
Strong understanding of:
Machine learning workflows (training, inference, optimization)
Drug discovery AI tools (Docking, QSAR, molecular dynamics, GNNs, generative models)
Software architectures, APIs, cloud platforms
Hands-on familiarity with patent databases:
USPTO, EPO, WIPO, Derwent, Orbit, PatBase
Ability to convert technical descriptions into claim-worthy IP language.
Excellent analytical writing and documentation skills.
