Definition Under general supervision, is responsible for supervising others and participating in the operation of water reclamation treatment, and biosolids processing, and disposal equipment at a water reclamation plant; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Inspects and monitors the operation of equipment such as air filters, chlorine indicators, and pumps, reporting need for repairs to designated authority; Enacts flow controls and enacts changes in solids operations based on demands and on operational needs; Unloads, monitors, and changes chemical feed based on operational needs; Collects samples and monitors autosamplers; runs field tests such as titration tests on chlorine levels in discharge; Supervises bringing tanks and processes online to respond to wet weather events; Drives to off-site locations to inspect equipment and processes; Maintains records on chemical usage and storage; Completes and maintains logs of operations in order to make operating decisions; Performs minor equipment maintenance including lubrication, cleaning, and painting; Completes performance appraisals; recommends first-line disciplinary action for subordinates; Assists in planning daily work schedule; Assigns tasks to workers based on process needs; Operates a computerized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor and report information about processes; Enforces safety rules and processes; cleans and maintains order in the chemical building or storage area and workstation area; Conducts training sessions for subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) State of Ohio Class II, III, or IV Wastewater Operator certificate for wastewater treatment works.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

SPECIAL NOTE Applicants currently holding an equivalent operator certification in another state and who are eligible to obtain reciprocity from the Ohio EPA will be considered by the Division of Sewerage and Drainage.

Successful attainment of the appropriate Ohio EPA operator certificate is required at the time of a Minimum Qualifications review.
