Role Summary
The Shift In-Charge is responsible for overseeing end-to-end operations of the Continuous Annealing Pickling Line (CAPL) during assigned shifts. The role ensures smooth production, adherence to quality parameters, coordination with maintenance teams, and strict compliance with safety and environmental standards. The incumbent will lead the shift team and drive continuous improvement across operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
Manage and monitor the operation of the Continuous Annealing Pickling Line to ensure uninterrupted production.
Ensure optimum utilization of resources and maintain targeted production efficiency.
Maintain real-time shift records, SAP entries, and production reports.
Quality Management
Maintain grade-wise line parameters as per the approved Quality Plan.
Ensure the final output meets all quality requirements and customer specifications.
Conduct in-shift quality checks and communicate deviations immediately.
Technical Expertise
Use technical knowledge of MIG welding for strip joining and related maintenance activities.
Support troubleshooting of process issues to minimize downtime.
Maintenance Coordination
Coordinate with the Maintenance team for timely resolution of equipment breakdowns.
Support preventive maintenance activities to reduce unplanned stoppages.
Report abnormalities and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and promote zero-incident culture on the shop floor.
Maintain compliance with environmental norms, statutory guidelines, and company standards.
Conduct toolbox talks and ensure PPE compliance.
Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of 10+ shift operators and technicians.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Ensure the team is trained and aligned with operational priorities.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement opportunities for energy saving, waste reduction, and process optimization.
Support initiatives focused on achieving cost reduction and operational excellence.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Ability to manage and motivate cross-functional teams.
Technical knowledge of steel processing operations (CAPL preferred).
Proficiency in SAP and basic computer applications (MS Office).
Problem-solving ability and strong decision-making skills.
Understanding of safety standards and quality systems.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Electrical, or related field.
3–6 years of experience in steel manufacturing operations, preferably in CAPL / similar lines.
Hands-on experience with welding and strip joining is an added advantage.
