SUMMARY:

Utilizes knowledge of the CWW system, GIS, GPS, maps, and electronic line location devices to locate and mark underground water and sewer mains and service lines as requested and per established guidelines and regulations. Manages all locate requests for Fort Benning. Exercises responsibility for upkeep and preventative maintenance of all locate equipment. Performs heavy manual labor and operates required mechanical equipment. Works under the supervision of the Ft. Benning Supervisor and Assistant Superintendent. However, much of the assigned work is performed alone, with no direct supervision. Attend all applicable seminars and training given by Columbus Water Works. In addition, all other functions and responsibilities as assignedEmployee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

Retrieves locate tickets from Korterra. Manages, executes, and closes out all locate requests for Ft. Benning per locate rules and regulations. Coordinates this work as necessary with Ft. Benning personnel, contractors, and Field Services Management.

Prepare for daily assignments by loading assigned truck with all necessary materials, and supplies.

Cleans and washes vehicles and maintains equipment as needed.

Communicates on a regular basis with Field Services Management to provide updates on work progress and to seek assistance when necessary.

Exhibits ability to perform heavy manual labor.

Exhibits ability to perform Confined Space Entry procedure if necessary, when working with others.

Exhibits ability to read and interpret utility maps and drawings as needed.

Exhibits ability to understand and implement traffic safety procedures.

Interacts with Engineering to insure proper records of locations are recorded within GIS, utilizing GIS and GPS when available and necessary.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Understanding of the maintenance of a Water Distribution System, including all equipment necessary to perform the maintenance. Must have knowledge of the Distribution System and Wastewater Collection System, street and subdivisions, valves and hydrants, and manholes. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or GED is the minimum requirement for position. A minimum of three years Construction Experience in Collections System or Distribution System and/or line locating experience required. Experience utilizing GPS, GIS Mapping, and electronic line location devises required. Possession of a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record is required. Must obtain CPR, First Aid Standard, and Confined Space Entry Certificates within one year of employment required. Experience reading maps and blueprints required. Knowledge of basic computer systems required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, maps, safety rules, and MSDS material. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and record keeping. Ability to communicate with contractors and customers as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and read all graphs and maps.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
