POSITION OVERVIEW
The Systems Integrator is responsible for managing, securing, and optimizing the plant's interconnected automation and information systems. This role serves as the technical expert for both Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) within the factory, ensuring reliable control of production systems and seamless integration with the factory network and applications. The position bridges factory-floor control systems with IT infrastructure, enabling real-time visibility, data integrity, and continuous improvement across all operations. This individual must be capable of working independently, exercising sound judgment, and collaborating effectively across Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and Corporate IT functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Configure, install, program, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC systems, HMIs and instrumentation in alignment with regulatory standards and GMP requirements
Expertise with Rockwell FTView SE, Wonderware/Aveva and historian integration responsibilities
Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to ensure timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met to support plant operations during process improvements, equipment changes, or scheduled shutdowns
Develop and maintain accurate engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications throughout the lifecycle of the process
Create and/or modify control system configuration and operator interface parameters as needed
Develop engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, P&ID flow sheets, I/O recordkeeping sheets and motor lists
Configure, test, and troubleshoot all components of the PLC system as needed
Maintain records and documentation for PLC systems and calibrations
Provide technical expertise and training to plant personnel on PLC systems and instrumentation
Maintain documentation of system configurations, modifications, and updates via AutoCAD and hard copy red lining electrical drawings
Identify and implement opportunities for system optimization, reliability, and continuous improvement to the existing facility network system
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proactively address risks in daily activities and project execution
Read electrical drawings for troubleshooting and developing electrical panel design and layout
Manage projects from inception through completion
Calibrate instrumentation and tune control systems to maximize operational efficiency
Repair, calibrate and test plant equipment as required
Perform control systems loop checks; hardware and software
Design, configure, and maintain the factory network infrastructure, including Layer 3 core switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, and wireless access points
Administer Active Directory services for factory network user accounts, permissions, and group policies
Implement and manage factory network security, including endpoint protection, firewall rules, and monitoring for unauthorized access or anomalous activity
Research, plan, and execute new server implementations and upgrades to support OT and data applications
Maintain system backups and disaster recovery protocols for factory servers, switches, and automation systems
Manage and renew digital certificates used to authenticate software, applications, and secure network communications
Coordinate with corporate IT to ensure compliance with company-wide cybersecurity policies
Install and configure routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points
Setup network cabling and hardware connections
Configure IP addresses, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs. Lead remediation of legacy VLAN1 practices (Jesup) and design structured VLANs/DMZ.
Apply firmware, security patches, and updates to network and automation assets
Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues (wired/wireless)
Maintain up-to-date network diagrams, IP address allocations and equipment inventory
Escalate complex problems to IT system administrators via intercompany work tickets
Ensure network security and compliance is met with firewall protection and monitoring for unauthorized access to the network
Assist in ordering and inventorying all necessary supplies and parts to perform required duties
Communicate effectively with management, engineering, & maintenance personnel
Follow safe work practices to maintain safe working conditions
Perform routine audits for maintenance and safety
Work overtime and/or be on call as needed MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or Industrial Automation to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job
Seven to ten years' experience in Systems Integration or a similar role Hands-on experience with:
o Project leadership in integration
o Experience with PLC systems and instrumentation & controls systems in manufacturing or industrial environment
o Historians, data acquisition, and integration with business systems
o Active Directory administration, user/group management, and permissions
o Windows server and system backups or virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V)
o Network routing and switching (VLANs, trunking, subnets, DMZ design)
o Server configuration, backup management, and virtualization platforms
o Firewall configuration, endpoint protection, and network monitoring tools
o Digital certificate management and secure authentication methods
Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus)
Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (ISA/IEC 62443, NIST CSF) and IT/OT network segmentation practices
Familiarity with Rockwell / AVEVA platforms
Familiarity with electrical schematics, I/O design, and control panel layouts
Ability to multi task and perform in a fast-paced environment; strong sense of urgency
Ability to communicate (written and verbally) technical information to non-technical audience
Effective time management skills; able to prioritize multiple projects
Ability to use AutoCAD, MS Office suite
Ability to maintain composure in a demanding and/or high stress situation
Ability to manage emails efficiently and effectively
Must be self-motivated with ability to work well both independently and collaboratively
Familiarity with safety standards and best practices in industrial environments PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One or more relevant automation or controls certifications, such as Rockwell Automation, AVEVA/Wonderware, Siemens, or ISA (CAP/CCST) credentials
One or more relevant IT or networking certifications, such as Microsoft (Azure Administrator), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), or CompTIA Network+ / Security+, or equivalent credentials WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily office-based role; overtime and weekend work may be required
May sit or stand for long periods
Must follow safety policies and procedures
