Job Summary:

Responsible for the daily operations and staff of the Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonary Function Departments and acting as the Pulmonary Rehab Therapist. Coordinates all therapeutic, diagnostic, and assessment related responsibilities performed within the Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Function departments. As the Associate Educator, this position will be in charge of all department education, including simulations. Will work with students doing their clinicals at HaysMed and be responsible for Policies and Procedures for the Respiratory Department.

Essential Functions:

Supervisor:

Provides positive leadership by an environment of teamwork, open communication and customer service.

Responsible for human resources processes including interviewing and orientating staff, ongoing performance management and timekeeping/scheduling and required documentation.

Assists in developing financial budget to achieve corporate strategies and financial targets, manages areas of responsibility to optimize revenue and reduce costs.

Assists in managing policies and work instructions for compliance with regulatory standards and to improve the overall operation of the facility.

Collects relevant information such as patient identification, procedure, appropriateness for indicated signs and symptoms, patient preparation, contraindications, patient assessment

Maintains, evaluates, and improves the processes of analyzing information for patient safety.

Provides patient education

Follows policies and procedures to perform therapy and procedures accurately and to determine each achieves the same outcome when performed by different staff.

Evaluates the patient study in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner to determine if the intended outcome was achieved; uses independent judgment and systematic problem solving methods to perform quality therapy, pulmonary and diagnostic procedures; communicates to physician when patient condition requires modification.

Collects data to measure departmental objectives outcomes.

Documents required components of patient care

Associate Educator:

Yearly competencies for Respiratory Department.

Education on new equipment as well as reviewing old equipment.

Provide simulations for staff.

Updates lessons for online learning.

Update and write policies and procedures for the department.

In charge of orientation of all new employees.

Sets up student schedules, obtaining all necessary information to get them into the programs they need for documentation.

Ensures students are receiving the education they need.

Evaluate/audit RT and PFT documentation/charges.

Performs equipment calibrations and checks on a routine basis keeping the appropriate records.

Charges all diagnostic procedures and process all diagnostic reports in a timely manner.

Remains able to assist department therapists as needed.

Suggests capital purchase items as well as having input on minor equipment purchases.

Pulmonary Rehab Therapist:

Conducting initial patient assessments to understand their respiratory condition, physical abilities and needs

Developing individualized pulmonary rehabilitation programs based on patient's health condition and goals

Administering therapies and exercises to improve patients' lung function and overall physical strength

Teaching patients how to manage their symptoms, use their medications, and adopt healthier lifestyles

Monitoring patients' progress, adjusting their treatment plans as necessary, and reporting on their outcomes

Providing emotional support and counseling to patients and their families

Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians and nurses to coordinate patient care

Staying updated on the latest research and developments in pulmonary rehabilitation

Conducting patient education sessions on lung health and disease management

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience: Graduated from accredited Respiratory Therapy program; must have minimum of two years experience in respiratory therapy; ability to manage associates. Knowledge of adult learning principles, methods and techniques involved in educating patients and modifying individualized care plans for care of specific medical cases.

Certificates and Licenses: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist Eligible (RRTe); current licensure with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts and may require additional state licensure based on population served; ACLS certification required or must complete ACLS certification within the first six months of employment; BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment; additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations
