Location: Red Deer & Central AlbertaJob Type: Full-TimePosition OverviewThe Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for plumbing, heating, and gasfitting projects across residential, commercial, and light industrial sectors.
This includes reviewing drawings, collecting supplier and subcontractor pricing, preparing professional bid proposals, and ensuring all estimates meet Alberta codes, regulations, and internal profitability standards.The Estimator reports directly to the General Manager or CEO and works closely with field and office personnel.Key ResponsibilitiesReview and analyze project drawings, specifications, and scope of workPrepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and subcontracted workConduct site visits in Red Deer and Central Alberta for measurements and scope verificationSolicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive bidsPrepare and submit professional proposals and tender documents within required timelinesEnsure compliance with the Alberta Building Code, Alberta Gas Code, and safety regulationsParticipate in pre-bid meetings, site walkthroughs, and post-bid reviewsAssist with cost tracking, budgeting, and change order pricingMaintain organized tender records and historical cost dataSupport improvements to estimating tools, templates, and workflowsProvide insights to enhance bid competitiveness and operational efficiencyQualificationsValid Driver’s LicenceJourneyperson Certification in Plumbing & Gasfitting B (preferred)Minimum 5 years' experience in plumbing, heating, or gasfitting, including at least 2 years in estimating or project managementStrong understanding of plumbing and heating systems, materials, and installation practicesExperience estimating residential, commercial, or light industrial projects within AlbertaProficiency with estimating software and Microsoft OfficeAbility to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specificationsSkills & AbilitiesExcellent mathematical, analytical, and organizational skillsStrong attention to detail and accuracyEffective communication and negotiation skillsAbility to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentCommitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfactionAdaptability and strong problem-solving skillsWorking ConditionsCombination of office work and on-site project assessmentAbility to lift up to 50 lbsExtended periods of sitting or standing depending on task requirementsOccasional additional hours to meet tender deadlinesExperience:Plumbing: 4 years (required)Estimating : 2 years (required)Work Location: In person
