JOB TITLE: Security Guard

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Security Guard monitors the safety of students, staff, and visitors as well as the security of the campus and its buildings by performing regular patrols of institutional buildings and grounds. The Security Guard is responsible for promoting and maintaining safety at an institution, by supporting the efforts of campus and local police. This position performs routine security activities to protect buildings and property and safeguard occupants and visitors during normal operations and special events. Additionally, the Security Guard may also be responsible for monitoring the security system. This position performs functions such as monitoring behavior, securing buildings and property, investigating disturbances, maintaining order during events, and enforcing regulations. Job responsibilities require the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with students, faculty, staff, and members of the general public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide assistance to any individual in need of medical attention.
Enforce all campus parking/traffic regulations.
Provide assistance for disabled vehicles and retrieve keys from locked vehicles.
Periodically patrol buildings and grounds of the College campuses.
Examine doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
Call local police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized people.
Circulate among visitors, faculty, staff, and students to preserve order and protect property.
Operates central control security system platform.
Operates and maintains entire video surveillance system.
Serves on Safety committee as active member.
Projects a positive self-image of technical skills, professionalism, appearance, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, honesty, fairness, loyalty, and personal integrity at all times.
Perform required related work as instructed.
Creation of Student ID cards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to recognize unusual, dangerous, or emergency situations and take appropriate action.
Ability to handle unpredictable or tense situations which may involve aggressive, angry or mentally ill individuals.
Ability to understand, interpret and apply various rules, ordinances and laws.
Ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare basic reports of a quality that can be presented in court.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work including individuals from various ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
Ability to handle the physical demands of an active, indoor and outdoor job.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or higher degree required and one year experience in security or law enforcement. Must have a valid West Virginia drivers license; willing to workdays or evenings as needed. Certification in CPR and first aid and Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification preferred but will be required to be completed within 12 months of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee will frequently communicate with other employees and students and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
The employee may need to move around their office and / or campus to attend meetings / classes and to access files, machinery or other job-related tools. The employee will need to regularly operate and use computers, phones and other electronic equipment.
The employee may need to lift and/or move equipment, tools or paperwork up to 25 pounds.
The employee may need to position themselves by reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching in order to adjust or collect equipment and/or supplies
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
