Job Summary
Provides quality care that is dependent on physician order or directed by the RN. Delivers nursing interventions based on professional judgment in response to individualized patient needs. Promotes restorative health and/or supportive care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
Professional Responsibilities:
Adheres to scope of LPN practice as outlined by the MS Board of Nursing, regulatory standards and hospital policy
Maintains professional and technical knowledge and pursues professional growth opportunities
Participates as an essential part of the nursing team, assists the RN and supports the Nursing Assistant
Serves as positive role model and in the preceptor role for new staff and students
Keeps access to protected health information secure and confidential
Collaborates with the RN, physician and multidisciplinary team to address patient needs
Appropriately seeks help or guidance from supervisor or other resource people
Adapts to change and prioritizes work
Demonstrates reliable attendance, reports on time and is ready to work at beginning of shift
Completes assigned duties, willingly accepts assignments and assist others to complete work on time
Willing to support unit’s staffing needs by occasionally adjusting work schedule, staying late or working extra
Establishes a safe, compassionate, caring environment for patients and their family
Establishes a safe, supportive work environment that promotes teamwork
Core Duties:
Provides patient care by collecting, monitoring, and reporting information and responding to basic needs
Assist with the admission process by collecting patient and family information
Promotes patient engagement by considering specific needs, values and preferences
Assists with discharge teaching about diagnosis, medications, and self-care skills to prevent hospital re-admissions
Accurately and completely documents patient information and nursing care in the patient’s medical record
Promotes continuity of care by reporting activities, incidents, and changing patient needs to next caregiver
Demonstrates infection prevention behaviors, consistent hand washing and use of appropriate PPEs
Adheres to safe medication administration while preparing, administering, documenting and monitoring meds
Recognizes safety risk and implements prevention plan for falls, skin breakdown and injury
Contributes to the department’s performance improvement activities
Demonstrates competency in performance of LPN clinical skills
Education and Experience
Current LPN license by the Mississippi Board of Nursing
Must be able to read, write, understand verbal and written communication
Preferred Qualifications
CPR Certification
