PCU RN Job Details – Roanoke, VA
Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia nursing jobs)
Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse, On-Site
Unit: Resource Nursing Pool – PCU/Medical-Surgical Float
Shift: Night, 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12s available upon request
Hours per Week: 36
Contract Duration: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 52 weeks)
Start Date: December 8, 2025
Estimated Weekly Salary: $2020 - $2070
Charting System: EPIC (EPIC experience required)
Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric patients
Average Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: PCU 5:1, Medical-Surgical 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
Holiday Requirement: One holiday per 13-week contract
PCU Registered Nurse Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Virginia or Compact State
Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/Stepdown RN experience
EPIC charting experience required
Certifications: ACLS, BLS (American Heart Association)
Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
Experience with central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, titrating cardiac drips, and rapid response/code team participation
Ability to float between PCU and Medical-Surgical units; flexible to staffing needs
Comfortable working all PCU and MS units
PCU RN Responsibilities
Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical units
Float between units as needed, adapting to changing patient acuity and staffing requirements
Perform advanced clinical skills: IV therapy, blood product administration, central line and trach management, non-invasive airway support
Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret/manage dysrhythmias, titrate cardiac drips
Respond to emergencies; participate in rapid response and code teams
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services)
Maintain accurate documentation using EPIC electronic health records
Support patient safety, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives
