About the Role

The Civil Engineering Director will provide leadership and technical expertise for public works and land development projects. This individual will oversee project management, design processes, quality assurance and quality control, and business development efforts. The Director will ensure the department meets project budgets, timelines, and deliverables while maintaining high standards of quality and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Technical and Project Management

Assign staff and manage resources efficiently across multiple projects to meet budgets, timelines, and deliverables

Lead the design process and documentation for public works and land development projects

Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control processes for project risk mitigation

Conduct preliminary engineering design studies, including assessment of site constraints and regulatory issues

Prepare and process tentative and final subdivision maps

Prepare and process public improvement plans for public agencies, as well as development plans for commercial and residential projects

Prepare and review hydrologic studies and drainage reports

Leadership and Communication

Communicate effectively and professionally with internal teams, sub-consultants, clients, and governmental agencies

Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills, supporting and explaining reasoning in alignment with design intent

Include appropriate stakeholders in decision-making processes and make timely, well-informed decisions

Foster a growth-oriented and collaborative team environment

Marketing and Business Development

Procure and manage new business through existing client relationships, repeat work, and new contracts

Identify and evaluate opportunities for private and public projects

Review proposals prepared by the marketing coordinator to ensure adequate budgets, schedules, and scopes, while mitigating design risk

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred

California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required

QSP/QSD Certification preferred

Required Skills

Knowledge of SWPPP

Project management

Civil 3D

AutoCAD

HydroCAD (desired, not necessary)

HEC-RAS (desired, not necessary)
