PostMag is South China Morning Post’s contemporary culture magazine, covering the people, ideas and places shaping Hong Kong and the wider region. Published in print every other Sunday and online daily, PostMag bridges culture, lifestyle and design through sharp writing, thoughtful visuals and an editorial voice attuned to how Asia is changing.
Purpose of the Position:
Reporting to the Editor, PostMag, the Managing Editor plays a key role in steering PostMag’s editorial operations, working closely with the Editor to shape story flow, elevate quality and ensure seamless production across print and digital platforms. You will oversee planning, editing and coordination, guiding a small team of editors and contributors while maintaining the magazine’s high editorial and visual standards. The role requires sharp editorial judgment, creative agility and an instinct for stories that connect culture, lifestyle and contemporary life in Hong Kong. Flexibility and commitment are essential during production cycles.
In this role, you will:
Oversee day-to-day editorial operations and content planning for print, web and social platforms.
Coordinate with writers, section editors, designers and photo teams to ensure stories meet deadlines and editorial standards.
Line-edit and top-edit features, ensuring clarity, accuracy, tone and consistency across platforms.
Manage production schedules, editorial calendars and flat plans.
Support commissioning, assigning and editing stories that are visually striking, culturally attuned and shaped by a distinctive editorial voice.
Shape and maintain the voice and quality of PostMag across all channels, ensuring alignment with its editorial identity.
Contribute occasional commentary, reportage and newsletter copy that builds PostMag’s editorial voice and deepens reader engagement.
Uphold journalistic integrity, fact-checking processes and SCMP editorial standards.
Provide feedback and mentorship to junior editors, writers and interns.
Contribute to long-term editorial strategy, issue themes and content innovation.
Represent PostMag in public and industry settings.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field.
Minimum 7 years of editorial experience, including at least 3 in a management or senior-editing role within magazines or features-driven publications.
Proven ability to manage cross-platform workflows and deliver high-quality stories under deadline.
Exceptional line-editing skills and a sharp editorial instinct for narrative, structure and tone.
Strong organisational and leadership abilities, with the confidence to drive decisions collaboratively.
Familiarity with InDesign, CMS platforms and digital publishing tools.
Deep interest in culture, lifestyle, design and contemporary issues in Hong Kong and the region.
