JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Education Specialist is a Registered Nurse with advanced professional judgment and expertise aimed at enhancing the competence and growth of clinical learners. This role supports nursing staff education while adhering to the Nursing Professional Development framework as defined by the American Nurses Association.

This position collaborates closely with nursing leadership to foster competency management, clinical education, professional growth, policy standardization, and onboarding of new team members at Hartford HealthCare.

As a core member of the nursing leadership team, the Clinical Education Specialist promotes alignment of regional nursing professional development and practice excellence across the Hartford HealthCare system.

Qualifications

BSN required; enrollment in a Master's program with completion within two years of hiring preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience, including at least 1 year in an acute care setting. Preceptor experience is a plus.

One year of relevant teaching experience preferred, especially in nursing professional development and/or specialty areas.

Licensure as a Registered Nurse from the CT DPH is mandatory before the hire date.

NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification must be obtained within two years of hire or transfer.

BLS certification is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proven ability to develop, deliver, and assess educational programs effectively.

Familiarity with high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.

Strong leadership skills and dedication to using education as a vehicle for continuous quality improvement in patient care delivery.

Understanding of adult learning principles and theories.

Knowledge of unit-based orientation plans.

Excellent skills in conducting educational needs assessments.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced working environment.

Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
