Database Engineer Intern

This team is responsible for providing database engineering solutions to production and research oriented databases which includes our robotaxi live service and databases which impact critical Zoox milestones.

In this Role, You will..

Work with senior team leads to build automations that improve productivity for Zoox developers and the database engineering team.

Collaborate with application developers to design efficient schemas, create indexes, and tune SQL queries for performance.

Assist developers in troubleshooting database errors, slow queries, and data-related issues during feature development.

Help build developer-friendly tools, dashboards, and scripts that simplify access to database metrics, logs, and query insights.

Requirements

Currently working towards a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a computer/electrical engineering program

Good academic standing

Able to commit to a 12-week internship beginning in May or June of 2026.

At least one previous industry internship, co-op, or project completed in a relevant area

Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California for the duration of the internship

Interns at Zoox may not use any proprietary information they are working on as part of their thesis, any published work with their university, or to be distributed to anyone outside of Zoox

Working with AI agents

Past experience with Building Automations Platform/Database teams.

Internship/Co-op

The monthly salary range for this position is $5,500 to $9,500. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level of education. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, and a housing stipend (relocation assistance will be offered based on eligibility).
