Internal Job Description – CT Technologist GENERAL SUMMARY: The CT Technologist performs computed tomography (CT) procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. This role utilizes CT technology and technique to aid in the diagnosis of medical conditions for patients across the age continuum. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Essential job functions marked with “*”): *Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, beliefs, and core values. *Performs all diagnostic and interventional CT studies while practicing appropriate radiation safety for patients, staff, and self. *Uses sterile technique when required. *Ensures optimal demonstration of patient anatomy through proper positioning and technical factor selection. *Performs venipuncture. *Operates all CT equipment and support systems (HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, teleradiography); evaluates images for technical quality. *Utilizes department computer systems (PACS, etc.) to review patient history and accurately document studies. *Provides appropriate care and imaging for patients of all ages while maintaining confidentiality. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other areas to ensure efficient workflow; communicates effectively with medical staff, coworkers, patients, and families. *Handles telephone calls related to scheduling, coordination, and inquiries with courtesy and accuracy. *Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives. *Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment; reports issues to the coordinator and contacts service vendors as needed. *Ensures work area is properly stocked. Engages in continuing education, reviews literature, and participates in development opportunities; attends required meetings. Assists with orientation and clinical education of students as assigned. Supports future planning and development of the CT department. *Accesses and administers applicable drugs and biologicals per Medical Center policy. Performs other related duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of CT positioning, technical factors, and radiation safety. Knowledge of invasive and non-invasive CT procedures. Familiarity with Joint Commission, federal, and state radiography regulations. Knowledge of relevant computer hardware/software. Skilled in operating CT equipment, PACS, and related systems. Ability to respond appropriately in stressful or emergent situations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and work independently. Ability to interact effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to care for diverse patient populations across all ages. Demonstrates courtesy and professionalism. Practices proper body mechanics for safety. Maintains strict HIPAA compliance. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program. Current ARRT certification or eligibility required. CT certification required within 24 months of hire. Valid state medical radiographer license required. OTHER CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA required.
