Position Description:
These duties include training in proper procedures for inspections of work being done by contractors, including widening & resurfacing projects; Hazard elimination (safety upgrading); Signing; Guardrail; Intersections; Drainage facilities; Assisting in surveying; Form & reinforcing steel; Concrete placement on structures; Flexible & rigid pavement; Assist in bituminous plants; Perform tests on concrete & soil.
The student will perform support functions in record keeping, maintain accurate data of work performed, organize materials & compiles information to assist in report preparation. Our engineers are in the field overseeing projects being constructed from the ground up. Whether it is a simple roadway resurfacing or the construction of a new bridge, our civil engineers are in the middle of it all!
May work in various counties (Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway, and Union) based on the location of the construction project assigned.

Upon graduation, interns are eligible to apply to be an ODOT employee through the Transportation Civil Engineering (TCE) Program. This program gives a new engineer the on-the-job experience, continued education through training and seminars offered at ODOT and the ability to work with Professional Engineers leading towards the requirements necessary in obtaining their P.E. certification.
