Our client is seeking an experienced and energetic Financial Controller to provide both strategic and operational financial expertise, supporting the Finance Director and wider leadership team. This role is critical to ensuring robust financial management, insightful reporting, and proactive collaboration that enables sound decision-making, efficient operations, and long-term sustainability of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Management
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in line with IFRS and internal policies
Prepare accurate management accounts, Board packs, and variance analysis with clear commentary
Oversee the preparation of statutory financial statements and manage the external audit process
Monitor working capital, cash flow, and liquidity to ensure financial healthBudgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
Drive the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts
Provide meaningful financial insights to support business strategy and operational decisions
Track performance against budgets and recommend corrective actions as neededCompliance & Risk
Ensure compliance with SARS, CIPC, and other regulatory requirements
Oversee company tax, including VAT, income tax, and provisional tax calculations
Implement strong internal controls and financial risk management frameworksTeam Leadership
Lead, mentor, and support a small but capable finance team
Review the work of Bookkeepers, Creditors/Debtors Clerks, and Junior Accountants
Identify training opportunities and encourage continuous developmentStrategic & Operational Support
Support investment and advisory work through financial models and scenario analysis
Manage accounts, procurement, vendor payments, and contract reviews from a finance perspectiveSystems & Process Optimisation
Enhance financial systems and reporting tools, promoting automation and efficiency
Champion best practices in financial governance, accuracy, and data integrityQualifications & Experience
BCom Accounting or equivalent (essential)
Completed SAICA Articles (essential)
57 years in a financial management role
Experience in construction, consulting, engineering, or architectural industries is advantageous
Exposure to multi-entity environments and project-based accounting is highly beneficialSkills & Attributes
Strong knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation
Proficient in Excel and financial systems (e.g., Xero and Fresh Projects)
Analytical, commercially savvy, and detail-oriented
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
