We are looking for a talented Diagnostic Controls Specialist to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins’ business in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Develop advanced electronic controls by contributing to open and closed loop systems and diagnostics across diverse applications, ensuring performance, reliability, and innovation.
Lead problem-solving efforts by owning investigations and resolutions for control system issues, applying first principles and technical expertise to guide sound decisions.
Enhance development tools and processes by improving workflows such as system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, and DVP&R, driving efficiency and product quality.
Translate customer needs into functional solutions by negotiating and decomposing requirements into control algorithms, tuning them, and validating performance through rigorous testing.
Influence design quality and performance by making key decisions in control and diagnostic design, and reviewing work from junior engineers to ensure robust and reusable solutions.
Own complex projects and components by independently leading initiatives with business impact and ambiguity, delivering results with full accountability to the project team.
Mentor and collaborate across teams by guiding technicians, interns, and junior engineers, and fostering cross-functional teamwork to share knowledge and drive innovation.
Drive process improvement and technical excellence by leading enhancements in work systems and contributing as a recognized expert in your discipline, strengthening team capabilities and outcomes.
Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Technical mastery of mechatronics and control systems: Apply deep knowledge of electronic hardware, open/closed loop controls, and system integration to design and optimize reliable, high-performing solutions.
System-level thinking and problem-solving: Use modeling, simulation, and failure mode avoidance techniques to guide design decisions, troubleshoot issues, and improve product reliability and performance.
Requirements and validation expertise: Translate stakeholder needs into clear, verifiable system requirements, and manage validation plans to ensure product capabilities align with expectations throughout the lifecycle.
Collaborative communication and continuous improvement: Build strong networks, communicate effectively across teams, and drive results by managing complexity, valuing diverse perspectives, and continuously improving processes.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
Additional Details:
This role will support diagnostic development and calibration across various applications.
Proven track record in technical problem-solving and making quality decisions.
Strong skills in technical collaboration, communication, and presentation.
Ability to read and comprehend Simulink diagrams.
Preferred experience with vehicle On-Board Diagnostics (OBD), software calibration, and Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) testing.
Advanced knowledge of automotive systems and powertrains is highly desirable.
