Job Description

Millard School District is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Instructional Assistant to provide instructional and classroom support under the direction of a teacher, principal, or other supervising professional. This position plays an essential role in supporting student learning, classroom preparation, and the overall functioning of the school environment. Responsibilities will vary depending on assignment and school needs.

Responsibilities

Instructional & Student Support

• Assist individual students or small groups with assignments and skill development in areas such as reading, math, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, decoding, penmanship, and spelling.

• Support classroom instruction, check and grade student work, and assist with testing under teacher supervision.

• Lead or support reading groups, phonics activities, and other structured learning tasks.

• Monitor student behavior and ensure a safe environment during class, recess, lunch, and transitions.

• Assist students to and from buses or cars.

• Provide supervision and support to students with behavioral or disciplinary needs.

• May be assigned to track missing assignments and follow up with students to ensure completion.

Classroom & School Operations

• Prepare classroom materials including copies, visuals, bulletin boards, games, and instructional aids.

• Assist with newsletters, parent notes, and materials distribution.

• Help schedule students for special programs, pull-outs, or tutoring.

• Assist with field trips, class parties, and other school activities.

• Provide supervision and support to students with behavioral or disciplinary needs.

• Substitute for absent teachers as assigned.

Student Care

• Assist students with personal hygiene tasks when required, including toilet training, diapering, cleaning up, and similar tasks.

• Support students using classroom technology.

• May prepare and clean up snacks.

• May ride the bus and assist students with special needs.
