Position: Actuarial Intern

TMHCC Stop Loss, a $2 Billion division within TMHCC, leads the way in providing medical stop loss insurance sold to employers. Medical Stop Loss provides an added layer of insurance protection to employers who choose to self-fund their health benefit plans. Self-funding can incur risks from catastrophic claims, and Medical Stop Loss insurance from Tokio Marine HCC is designed to protect employers from that risk.

Position Summary:
Under immediate supervision, learns, shadows, and provides support in the Actuarial department of Tokio Marine HCC - A&H Group (TMHCC). You will be involved in activities including, but not limited to, reinsurance and pricing support, budget support, and providing key statistics, analyses and results for our medical stop loss and other related businesses.
Key Responsibilities:
Attending staff and departmental meetings on an ongoing basis.
Perform assigned project work.
Analyze claims and premium information in support of actuarial assignments.
Analyze and evaluate various lines of business including producing reports for underwriting, management, or reinsurers.
Dependent on need, analyze data for other tasks.
Follow work plans, established timelines, and predefined goals for assigned work.
Meet commitments on deadlines.
Develop strong communication with the Actuarial Team as well as other internal departments
Perform work thoroughly in a cost-efficient manner and at a high productivity level
Comply with all corporate policies and procedures
Take all reasonable steps to safeguard company assets against waste, loss, unauthorized use, and misappropriation.
Report breakdown in controls to a supervisor or manager.
Ability to work independently and think critically on assigned projects.
Strong work ethic and desire to learn the role of actuaries in the stop loss environment.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Intermediate proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio.
Education, Experience & Knowledge:
60 completed college hours from an accredited college or university and an average grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor degree program applicable to Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Risk Management.
Ability to apply knowledge of actuarial principles, practices, and procedures to assigned project work
Good written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
Good organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Any proficiency in other programming languages such as RStudio or Python is a plus

May be required to remain stationary for extended periods of time
Must be able to operate a computer and other devices
Close vision and ability to adjust focus, such as required to read a computer screen
The pay range for this position is $22-$40 which includes geographic adjustments, where applicable. The pay range is the range THMCC, in good faith, believes is the range of compensation for this role at the time of this posting. The hired applicant will be offered pay within the entire range based on the candidate's geographic location, qualifications, work experience, education, and/or skill level.
