TOWN OF APEX invites applications for the position of: Stormwater Engineer OR Stormwater Intern ABOUT THIS POSITION: The following are the salary ranges for the Stormwater Engineer and Stormwater Engineer Intern positions: * Stormwater Engineer Hiring Range: $84,926.40 - $104,020.80 * Stormwater Engineer Intern Hiring Range: $37.28 - $45.67 (hourly) WORK LOCATION: 105-B Upchurch St, Apex, NC 27502 SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm (Hybrid) POSTING CLOSING DATE: December 2, 2025 at 7pm WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: The Stormwater Engineer performs work in support of the Town's Stormwater, erosion control, floodplain, and riparian buffer programs.
This includes review of development plans, managing small capital improvement projects, and supporting the 6 minimum measures of the Town's NPDES MS4 permit.
A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS: * Reviews proposed development plans for compliance with area of assignment; participates as a member of the Technical Review Committee.
* Responds to requests for information from citizens, realtors, developers and other interested parties for issues relating to Town projects; responds to a variety of citizen complaints, resolves conflicts with developers, contractors and the general public.
* Reviews plans for accessory structure and additions to ensure compliance with the UDO and Town and State riparian buffer rules and attends Board of Adjustment meetings as necessary.
* Serves as Town project manager on small stormwater CIP projects including budgeting, bidding, construction administration, inspection, and invoicing.
* Represents the Town and attends local and regional meetings in area of assignment.
* Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with state and federal agencies and other local units of government.
* Assists with amendments to the Town's ordinances, standard details and specs.
* Attends various committee meetings representing the Town as requested, including attending meetings in the absence of the Senior Stormwater Engineer and Stormwater Engineering Manager.
* Maintains records and reports of work inspection activities, plans, and related information.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Bachelor's Degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university, a minimum of four (4) years of experience in stormwater design or plan review work; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
We welcome new or recent engineering graduate4s with less experience to apply at the Stormwater Engineer Intern level.
* Ability to obtain an NC Engineering Intern certification within 1 year of employment.
* Ability to obtain NC Professional Engineer (PE) license within 5 years of employment.
