We are expanding our portfolio to include cutting-edge data centre development projects and are therefore seeking experienced data centre professionals.

Profile Description:

Operating at programme level, the Mechanical SME will lead the development of standards and best practices for Mechanical Systems across data centre developments. The role also focuses on reviewing mechanical systems designs through RIBA Stage 3, ensuring compliance with programme-wide requirements, local standards, and hyperscaler specifications. Beyond RIBA Stage 3, the SME will support project teams during tender evaluations, development, commissioning, and integration phases, driving robust, scalable, and secure mechanical infrastructure. In addition, the role champions knowledge sharing, equipping teams with expertise and fostering continuous improvement in mechanical engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Standards and Governance:

Define and maintain programme-wide standards, templates, procedures and best practices for mechanical systems (Cooling, Ventilation, Fire Safety, Fuel System, etc...).

Ensure alignment with local regulations, hyperscaler requirements, and Goodman protocols.

Promote continuous improvement and innovation in mechanical and comment on all design information in collaboration with the Goodman engineering team to ensure it is buildable, commissionable, and compliant with Goodman’s requirements and those of the end-user.

Design Compliance & Quality Assurance:

Ensure the projects are delivered in safe and sustainable manner.

Support programme and project levels design managers for definition of mechanical scope of work per each phase

Actively participate in multiple data centre and substation projects in projects from concept to end of detail design to ensure Goodman’s standards, International and local rules and regulations are met.

Provide feedback to update standards where necessary

Review consultant deliverables for safety, scope compliance, spatial coordination, constructability, and maintainability.

Verify capacity equipment specifications and diagrams for mechanical systems.

Conduct technical bid review for General Contractor and main equipment vendors.

Provide answers to consultant, designer and general contractor RFI’s.

Provide technical support for information requests during the procurement of contractors/sub-contractors/manufacturers, as well as the design execution during the construction

Commissioning support:

Support commissioning teams in validating systems functionality and system performance.

Review test scripts and acceptance criteria for integrated systems.

Review commissioning results for integrated systems.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Innovation:

Engage with internal stakeholders and external vendors to align mechanical systems strategies with operational goals.

Engage in technical workshops with clients to align and explain mechanical strategies.

Stay informed on emerging technologies in data centres mechanical systems.

Promote standardisation and continuous improvement of the mechanical systems across projects.

Educate internal stakeholders on the standards being implemented.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related field.

5–8 years’ experience in mechanical engineering for mission-critical environments.

Proficiency in cooling, ventilation, fire safety, and fuel system standards.

Strong communication and collaboration skills in English.

Key Skills:

Expertise in designing and implementing mechanical systems for data centres.

Ability to lead technical reviews and resolve complex integration challenges.

Strong documentation and presentation skills.

Detail-oriented with a methodical approach to problem-solving.

Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
