About the role

The Team Leader – Underground is responsible for leading a team in the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of bulk explosives to underground mining operations. This role works closely with MMU Operators, Bench Assistants, Shotfirers, and the Site Supervisor to ensure all blasting activities are executed safely, in compliance with site-specific and regulatory requirements, and with minimal environmental impact

What you will be doing

Lead daily underground blasting operations, including loading and maintenance activities.

Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols; report all incidents and near misses immediately.

Conduct and participate in daily toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings.

Maintain up-to-date training records in line with Orica’s training matrix and site-specific requirements.

Ensure emergency response equipment and first aid kits are complete and accessible.

Support the implementation and closure of audit actions related to SHES and operational standards.

Promote environmental stewardship by minimizing waste and ensuring proper handling of raw materials and dangerous goods per Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) guidelines.

Maintain high housekeeping standards across operational areas.

Notify site management of any deviations in product specifications, appearance, or performance.

Collaborate with the client to meet production targets and operational KPIs.

Proactively engage in problem-solving with customers on-site to address concerns and ensure smooth operations.

Foster strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Provide support across other locations as required, based on operational needs and competency.

What you will bring

Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from reputable universities.

Minimum 2 years of experience in underground mining operations.

Proven experience in leading teams in a high-risk, safety-critical environment.

Strong understanding of blasting techniques and explosive handling.

Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships across diverse teams.

Results-driven mindset with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Working knowledge of Indian mining regulations and safety standards is highly desirable.

Your qualifications

Insert tertiary qualification required for role (e.g. Accountant must have a tertiary degree in an Accounting discipline, an Engineer must have a tertiary degree in an Engineering discipline)

Technical qualification / legistlative / SHES certification
