The City of South Lake Tahoe is hiring a Data and Innovation Intern!
Join a forward-thinking team that's reimagining how local government works. As a Data and Innovation Intern, you'll work under the guidance of the Assistant City Manager and the Data and Innovation Program Manager to help deliver more efficient, data-informed public services.
You'll be part of a small, collaborative team focused on improving internal operations through better data, streamlined processes, and smarter use of existing tools. In this role, you'll support projects that enhance service delivery, assist with GIS data editing and map creation, and help manage and optimize the platforms city staff rely on every day. You'll also contribute to documenting workflows, analyzing data, and testing digital solutions that improve how the city functions behind the scenes.
This internship offers hands-on experience in civic innovation and public sector technology, with opportunities to work on real challenges that make a tangible impact.
Internship Details
Start date: Flexible, but no later than February 1, 2026.
Hours: 40 hours/week for 6 months or 20 hours/week for one year depending on candidate preference.
Location: This internship is in-person only in South Lake Tahoe. Remote work is not approved at this time.

Collaborate on process improvement projects that streamline city operations using existing tools and platforms.
Support GIS data editing, map creation, and spatial analysis to inform decision-making.
Assist in optimizing digital platforms used daily by city staff.
Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual tasks and improve efficiency.
Contribute to user research, data storytelling, and solution design.
