Position: Spring Weight Lifting Coach
Location: Garfield Heights High School
Position Type: Part Time, Stipend
Job Description:
Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Spring Weight Lifting Coach to lead and supervise the district's offseason strength and conditioning program. The coach will work with student-athletes across multiple sports to improve strength, speed, conditioning, technique, and injury prevention. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strength and conditioning, experience working with high school athletes, and a commitment to promoting a safe and positive training environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Strength & Conditioning Leadership: Plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive offseason weight training and conditioning program for student-athletes of various sports.
Athlete Development: Provide instruction on proper lifting technique, mobility, flexibility, and functional movement to support athletic performance and injury prevention.
Safety & Supervision: Ensure a safe training environment by maintaining proper supervision, enforcing safety protocols, and monitoring equipment usage.
Program Planning: Develop structured training sessions tailored to seasonal needs, athlete experience levels, and sport-specific requirements.
Collaboration: Work closely with head coaches, athletic trainers, and the athletic department to align strength and conditioning goals with sport programs.
Motivation & Mentorship: Encourage positive attitudes, discipline, work ethic, and personal growth among student-athletes.
Record Keeping: Monitor attendance, track athlete progress, and maintain any required training documentation.
Facility & Equipment Oversight: Assist with maintaining cleanliness, organization, and safety of weight room spaces and equipment.
Professional Growth: Stay current on strength and conditioning best practices, high school training standards, and evolving safety guidelines.
Other Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
Qualifications:
Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education
Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks
Knowledge of weight lifting techniques, conditioning, and injury prevention
Prior coaching, teaching, or athletic training experience preferred
Strong communication, organizational, and mentoring skills
Commitment to fostering academic achievement, student well-being, and athletic growth
