Title: Project Engineer
The Project Engineer will provide technical leadership, in the discipline of mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, systems, or controls engineering, through various phases of BESS and/or PV project design, procurement, and execution, leveraging internal or external subject matter experts as required. This role will support specific phases of major projects including business development support, site development, permitting support (air, water, state, local, etc.), scope development, RFP solicitations and evaluations, major contract negotiations (equipment, engineering, or EPC), construction and commissioning activities, and transition to commercial operations. This role reports directly to the VP of EPC.
Roles
Responsibilities:
Support and diligence project development efforts to generate scope of work documents for RFP solicitation(s)
Coordinate interdepartmental project handoffs [Dev -> EPC -> Ops]
Work with Owner's Engineer to develop technical and commercial contract packages
Understand and ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards (eg. UL9540, NFPA855), and Federal, State or local municipal codes
Lead Bidder evaluations, normalize commercial proposals, conform contract exhibit for execution
Review scope documents and detailed engineering drawings to ensure technical scope compliance, construction adherence in field implementation, and to confirm alignment with key stakeholder requirements
Manage RFIs, drawing reviews, submittals, with internal and external stakeholders
Review and challenge change order requests, considering alternative options and performing pro/con analyses
Validate invoice applications versus work completed
May participate in monthly budget review meetings and be tasked with supporting contingency management
Lead project registrations (ERCOT, PUCT, PJM, etc.) and compilation of supporting documents
Manage project risk register and lessons learned log
Actively participate in reoccurring cross-departmental meetings
Represent the company within industry working groups
Perform and/or review engineering calculations, analysis, research, and design
Provide cost analysis and develop recommendations based on calculations (e.g. cost for equipment upgrade) for management review
Perform system walkdowns to verify installation in accordance with design drawings and contract specifications, identify non-compliant punch list items, and monitor corrective actions
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned
Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, ) and AutoCAD; Experience with Procore, SalesForce and Inspire Planner a plus
Ability to communicate across a broad spectrum of technical understanding - written, verbal and non-verbal
Ability to read and follow design drawings and construction plans
Ability to coordinate resolution of technical problems and implement change
Understanding of laws and codes applicable to design and construction of projects (eg. UL1973, NEC, IEC, IBC)
Familiarity with engineering phases, including scope creation, detailed design, engineering implementation, field engineering, and start-up support
Familiarity with lithium-ion batteries, inverters and high-voltage systems

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Systems, Controls preferred)
Minimum of 2 years of industry experience in construction or engineering (renewables preferred)
FE or PE license preferred
Travel & Time Commitment:
Approximately 30% of time will be on the road; will vary based on status of projects
Work travel includes solo site visits
Expect limited travel related to industry conferences and company events
This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Standard office hours are from 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM EST. The demands of projects may require work outside of these times.
