Job Summary

Under the direction of the Communications Supervisor, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations and oversight of the Shawano Communications Center. Additionally, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing training, direction, supervision, and leadership to Communications staff.

Work may be performed on various shifts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

-Serves as a resource to staff interpreting dispatch policy & procedure, Sheriff's Office policy & procedure, and County policy & procedure.

-Serves as next in command in the absence of the Communications Supervisor.

-Participates in the interview process for hiring new Telecommunicators. Makes recommendations regarding the selections, promotions, and discipline of supervised personnel.

-Oversees Communications Training Officer Program; provides direction and advice to Communications Training Officers to ensure consistent training processes.

-Assist Communications Supervisor in oversight including: evaluating, counseling, training, and advising Communications staff regarding duties, responsibilities, and priorities within the Communications Center.

-Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of organizational operations and recommends new or revised methods, policies, procedures, or work rules.

-Assists the Communications Supervisor with Communications Center staffing; ensuring appropriate daily shift coverage and approval of short notice time off requests and/or flex time usage.

-Inspects and reviews the work of all team members.

-Performs periodic review of data entry information and conducts or assigns necessary tasks to ensure accuracy and completeness.

-Monitor and complete a check of Communications Center equipment condition and the security of the office during each assigned shift.

-Monitor and ensure compliance with all statutes, ordinances, rules, and regulations as they apply to the Communications Division and its assigned personnel.

-Serves on call to aid in operational problems or concerns within the Communications Center or Sheriff's Office as needed.

-Participates in public relations events; to include in office or out of office activities.

-Attends monthly Command Staff meetings

-Attends quarterly Telecommunications Command Staff meetings

-Performs Telecommunicator duties as required, covers overtime hours as part of staffing.

-Any other duty as assigned.

Work Requirements:

-Associate Degree and/or relevant work experience of 5+ years.

-A minimum of five years of full-time duty as a dispatcher for Public Safety.
