Histology Senior Technician - Comprehensive Cancer Center

The Comparative Pathology and Digital Imaging Shared Resource (CPDISR) of the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center performs comprehensive histology and immunohistochemistry services for research investigators throughout The Ohio State University, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and external research clients, and performs all diagnostic histology services for the Applied Pathology Service in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences at the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine. The Histology Technician 3 will perform routine histology procedures including but not limited to processing, paraffin embedding, microtomy as well as routine and special histochemical staining for animal tissues to be evaluated by pathologists and utilized by the research community for scientific purposes. The qualified candidate will perform quality control of their own embedding and microtomy. The Histology Technician 3 reports to the CPDISR Histology Laboratory Manager and CPDISR Director, will be cross-trained in multiple histology techniques and taught to operate all necessary histology laboratory equipment, and be trained to utilize accessioning and submission web-based laboratory management software, including appropriate procedures for checking and completing job tasks. The CPDISR Laboratory has daily operating hours 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Histology Technician 3 may interact with clients, diagnostic pathologists, pathology residents, graduate students and postdocs, and veterinary students. The ideal candidate enjoys working as a member of a highly functional and friendly team toward shared goals, completing tasks and helping other members of the team when time permits, and possesses the ability to adapt flexibly to the high paced and variable work in our facility. This position requires sharp focus vision, color vision, finger dexterity, and attention to detail.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent combination education and experience.
American Society for Clinical Pathology certification as a Histotechnician.
2 years of relevant experience required. 4-6 years of relevant experience preferred.

CPDISR is Directed by a board-certified comparative veterinary pathologist with greater than 10 years of experience and supports ~200 investigators and their laboratories annually. CPDISR is located in the College of Veterinary Medicine and actively supports the educational missions of the CVM and CCC, including CAMELOT Cancer Research Trainees.
