Purpose:
Provides supervision and instruction to students seeking a career as an EMT or paramedic. Responsibilities include the design or implementation of a training program for a trade school or college. Instructors teach students through field learning, skills laboratory, and in class. The training program must meet all qualifications and state regulations for EMT education, preparing students to earn a National Registry of EMTs paramedic certification.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of EMT educational program offerings.
Prepares and delivers instruction either at the EMT Academy or off-site, as needed; supervises the activities of course participants during instructional time.
Evaluates learner performance, provides feedback, and develops learner remediation plans.
Fulfills EMT educational program administrative requirements, to include calculation and submission of grades, maintenance of program, course, and student/participant records, and preparation and submission of data and reports.
Participates in continuing professional development programs as appropriate.
Adheres to established University and departmental policies and procedures and relevant quality and safety standards.
Participates in activities that promote the EMT Academy, to include student recruiting, and program marketing events, as appropriate.
May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:

Knowledge of current EMS curricular content and education standards.

Ability to adapt EMS curricula to reflect State requirements, local needs, and national trends.
Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the State of Missouri.
Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods.
Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants.
Ability to adhere to established standards for educational quality.
Ability to maintain complete, accurate educational records.
Knowledge of EMS educational program accreditation processes and standards.
Knowledge of State of Missouri EMS Bureau rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
Required:
Complete an EMS instructor program.
Meet any additional requirements set by Lincoln University.
Be monitored by an affiliate faculty member during your first classroom course.
Provide proof of current certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
Submit fingerprints for a background check.
Provide proof of vaccination for tuberculosis, hepatitis B, MMR, and varicella.
Three years' experience in EMS.
Current Missouri paramedic license.
Current ACLS, PALS, and CPR.
Preferred:
One year EMS or fire teaching experience.
Physical Demands:
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Work involves light exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
