Key Responsibilities of the Role
Provides strategic leadership to a team of highly experienced technical Claims professionals and Claims managers and is responsible for the ongoing management of staff by attracting talent, setting clear direction, providing appropriate guidance, managing performance, recognizing contributions, and developing capabilities
Manages the team to achieve established claims objectives in accordance with the claims mission and established policies and procedures
Completes technical file reviews and measures the team's adherence to Claims best practices and technical claims training; use insights gleaned from the file review process for coaching Claims professionals and managers

Cultivates effective relationships with agency partners and other internal and external stakeholders to achieve the overall business objectives and to continuously improve Central's Claims operations
Communicates strategy and priorities to team by setting expectations and holding team accountable
Manages resources appropriately - staffing, workloads, external suppliers, adjusting expenses
Ensures reserve and payment accuracy; provide proper reserve and payment authority
Coordinates with other Senior Claims Manager(s) to develop and maintain Central's large loss and reinsurance reporting processes and capabilities
Oversees day-to-day operations of the team, including oversight of coverage analysis, risk transfer, liability evaluation, damage evaluation, investigation, reserving, litigation management, expert usage, action plans, and resolution.
Maintains continued file oversight of the most complex and/or severe liability claims on the team
Coordinates with other Senior Claims Manager(s) to maintain reporting, feedback loops and collaboration with internal stakeholders
Provides timely value-add feedback with internal stakeholders including Underwriting, Loss Control, Risk, Marketing, Subrogation and SIU
Evaluates performance of the team and individuals of the team and obtains desired results.
Complies with state regulatory/statutory requirements, corporate privacy and other claim policy requirements and ensure compliance for all within the Liability line of business.
Maintains a deep understanding of the Liability Insurance landscape; attend applicable industry events/conferences; conduct line of business research to identify and understand trends and make adjustments to strategy accordingly.
Makes informed strategic and operational business decisions by identifying and analyzing trends and improvement opportunities through the effective use of resources, tools and metrics.
Develops best practices for claims handling in designated area (e.g., Auto BI claims or GL claims)
Acts as dedicated liaison with underwriting, loss control, actuarial, and product for designated area (e.g., Auto BI claims or GL claims) Required Qualifications
Ability to obtain and maintain all required state department of insurance adjusting licenses
Bachelor's degree in related field and 6 years of complex claims handling experience in the insurance industry (specific experience with complex auto, general liability and construction losses) including 1 year management experience
Or 8 years complex claims handling experience in the insurance industry (specific experience with complex auto, general liability and construction losses) including 1 year management experience
Experience in complex coverage analysis and significant large loss evaluations Preferred Qualifications
CPCU and/or other insurance designations Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Superior people and management skills to properly manage staff
Excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills
Knowledge of Claims, Underwriting, Loss Control and Actuarial functions
Possesses verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills
Possesses multi-tasking and prioritization skills
Ability to understand Central Insurance's policies and processes
Technical and business management acumen; advanced claims investigation and resolution skills; advanced knowledge of insurance and claims handling principles, track record of effective litigation management
Ability to understand Central Insurance's policies and processes
Ability to travel to assigned agents including occasional overnight
