Forestry Teacher 2026-2027
Position: Forestry Teacher (Career and Technical Education - CTE)
Licensure Endorsement: MDE Endorsement Code 914 - Forestry Career Pathway
Position Summary:
The Forestry Teacher is responsible for planning, instructing, and evaluating students in the MDE-approved secondary Forestry Career Pathway program. The primary goal is to prepare students with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for entry-level employment and/or postsecondary education in the forestry and natural resources industry. The teacher will manage classroom, lab, and field environments to ensure a safe and effective learning experience that meets all state and federal guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum Delivery Deliver instruction using the state-adopted curriculum framework, covering topics such as legal land descriptions, tree and log calculations, timber cruising, marketing, reforestation, and fire management/safety.
Hands-on Learning: Provide practical, hands-on field experience, which may include managing an outdoor lab or forest site, utilizing specialized equipment, and integrating modern technologies like unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
Assessment: Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to track student competency and progress.
Student Development: Advise students on academic and career matters, guiding them in the completion of Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE) and preparing them for industry-recognized credentials.
Classroom Management: Maintain student records, manage a safe and effective learning environment, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly maintained and utilized.
Professional Development: Immediately enroll in and actively participate in the Vocational Instructor Preparation (VIP) program and complete an individualized professional development plan (PDP) as required by MDE.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all instruction and activities comply with MDE guidelines, as well as water quality and forestry best management practices.
Technology Integration: Validate technology competency using an MDE-approved assessment such as IC3 and complete a MDE-approved certification for online learning workshop.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution, preferably in Forestry or a related field approved by the MDE Coordinator of Agriculture Programs. (An associate degree may be acceptable with additional experience).
Occupational Experience:
With a bachelor's degree or higher: At least one year of verifiable full-time occupational experience in the forestry field within the past ten years.
With an associate degree: At least two years of verifiable full-time occupational experience in the forestry field within the past ten years.
Licensure: Must be eligible for or currently hold a Mississippi Educator License with a specific endorsement for the Forestry Career Pathway (Code 914).
Background: Ability to pass all required background checks mandated by state law.
