Position Summary The Background Check Specialist is responsible for helping with the background check investigation process.

This position will be coordinating and documenting required background check requests and results and conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure background checks are submitted completely and accurately prior to submission and within the required timeframes and deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES The Background Check Specialist will perform duties including, but not limited to: * Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program's Mission, Values and Philosophies.

* Understand policies and background check regulations, requirements, and processes required by federal, state, and local agencies and be capable of conducting background checks.

Background checks include those mandated by federal, state, and local regulations and may include, but are not limited to, Public Records Check, Sex Offender Registry Check conducted through the U.S.

Department of Justice, National Sex Offender Public Website check, National FBI criminal background check, Child Abuse and Neglect (CA/N) record check, State Criminal History Repository Check, Local Police Check, ORR Central Registry check, Driver's Record and Clearance, all additional State background check requirements, any local background check requirement * Responsible for conducting all required background checks for sponsor families, foster families, applicants, employees, contractors, interns, volunteers, and other individuals requiring background checks.

* Document the status of background check requests and the background check results in appropriate database.

* Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure background checks are complete and accurate prior to submission and within the required timeframes and deadlines as described in Policy.

Escalate any discrepancies, disqualifying offenses, or compliance issues to HR Leadership for legal review.

* Communicate with individuals being background checked regarding their background check status, to ensure the safe release of unaccompanied alien children to an appropriate sponsor timely placement with a foster family or ensure the suitability of an employee, intern, contractor, or volunteer to work with children in ORR care.

* Support team with, reference checks, and other documentation as needed.

* Assess background check turnaround times and report to HR leaders suggested improvements for timeliness of receiving results, compliance, or quality improvement.

* Assist with State and ORR audits, compliance internal reviews, and policy updates related to background screening.

* Performs other duties as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * High school diploma or equivalent degree.

* Minimum of 3 years employment experience.

* Must have base technical skills in Microsoft applications to include Excel, Word, and * Smartsheets.

* Must have good communication and project management skills.

* High level of confidentially required.

* Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
