Food Purchasing Specialist – Nursing Home Dietary Experience Required
Location: Hempstead, NY (On-site with limited remote flexibility)
Salary: $60,000–$70,000 (based on experience)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Position Overview
We are seeking a Food Purchasing Specialist with direct experience in nursing home or long-term care dietary operations. This role supports multiple skilled nursing facilities by managing food purchasing through an online platform, coordinating vendor orders, and ensuring accuracy in P.O. and invoice reconciliation.
The ideal candidate has worked within a nursing home dietary department and is familiar with food vendors, dietary menus, and budget/PPD requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and process food and supply orders through our online purchasing system for multiple facilities.
Review and match purchase orders, delivery receipts, and invoices for accuracy.
Coordinate with the Accounts Payable team for invoices match.
Work closely with facility Dietary Managers to support ordering needs.
Identify cost-effective product substitutions while maintaining dietary/menu standards.
Monitor pricing, shortages, and vendor communication.
Support purchasing consistency across multiple facilities.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of purchasing experience in a nursing home or long-term care dietary department.
Knowledge of dietary menus, PPD budgets, texture-modified diets, and restricted diets commonly used in skilled nursing facilities.
Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Experience
Former Dietary Manager, Assistant Dietary Manager, Diet Technician, cook with ordering responsibilities, or Purchasing Clerk in a nursing home setting.
