General Job Description

Under general supervision, paints interior and exterior walls and trim of County buildings. Performs various other duties such as cleaning and preparing surfaces, hanging and patching wallpaper, hanging and finishing sheetrock, etc. Reports to Crew Chief Painter.

Duties for this Position

Paints interior and exterior wall and trim of County buildings. Performs various duties in preparation for the actual painting including cleaning and preparing surfaces for painting, caulking and glazing windows; patching and repairing flaws and cracks in surface; mixing paint; erecting and moving scaffolds as required, etc.

Hangs and patches wallpaper.

Hangs and finishes sheetrock.

Utilizes various types of tools and materials including sanders, paint sprayer, brushes, rollers, scrapers, scaffolds, ceiling blower, pressure washer, sheetrock tools, wallpaper tools, etc.

Receives, reviews, processes, files and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as work orders, mileage sheets, bids, work release sheets, etc.

Interacts and communicates with immediate supervisor, co-workers, County employees, etc.

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Performs other related duties as required.

Position Minimum Requirements

Has considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of painting, sheet rocking, and wallpapering. Is able operate, service, and repair a variety of machines and equipment. Is able to follow oral and written instructions. Is able to perform work in a safe and prescribed manner. Has the ability to pay constant attention to details of assigned work. Is able to complete required mathematical calculations accurately. Is knowledgeable of the terminology used within the Department. Has the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, other County employees, etc. Has the ability to apply common sense understanding in performing tasks, and is able to use independent judgment in routine situations. Is able to instruct and supervise the activities of Trades Workers assigned to paint work. Has the ability to perform required duties and responsibilities in adverse weather conditions such as heat, cold, wetness, and humidity. Has the ability to aid co-workers and employees of other departments as required. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.

Additional Information

Requires high school diploma and three to five years in general painting procedures, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provided the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
